Lyf One-North

“Portals” is a series of anamorphic and BAUHAUS inspired murals at Lyf One-North Singapore taking conceptual inspiration from One-North’s identity as a buzzing melting pot for innovators, creative researchers, and techno-centric startups and enterprises.

Presently, the portals we interact with every day are the digital screens we depend on to perform our daily functions. These screens act as a portal that transports us to a different realm and allows us to see the world and experience life from the comfort of our homes. Through this exhibit of murals, we hope to show an aspiration towards a future where physical portals and holograms will become a reality.

The idea of portals is further explored as basic geometric shapes and anamorphic composition that let us see alternate realities. This will be realized through the themes of biophilia, communal living, and futuristic technology as an extension of our lives.

External Feature Wall

The exterior feature wall painting present  a vision of a day where advances in science and technology will enable us to travel across the world in a matter of minutes using hovering transportation systems and advanced technological boring tunnels, bringing communities and people closer together.

These ground-breaking discoveries allow our world to be revitalised with greenery for a biophilic lifestyle by reducing the use of land area and integrating nature into our future cities. In this utopian future, humanity achieves self-actualisation, develops a greater sense of awareness for our surroundings, and learns to coexist peacefully with nature.

Underpass Bicycle Rack

The bicycle parking mural showcases the idea of active mobility and in turn contribute to a more environmentally sustainable lifestyle. The design incorporates Bauhaus-style geometric figures in movement on minimalistic future bicycles and features 'portal windows' that would show communal living scenes happening in different spaces within Lyf One-North.

Portal Corridors

The corridor murals are designed to stretch the length of the corridor to create an immersive experience for Lyf’s co-living tenants. The spiral-like designs created using monochromatic and minimalistic shapes are inspired by the Bauhaus movement, creating 'portals' leading to the buildings distinctly rounded windows that transports visitors walking through the corridors into another dimension as they become incorporated as part of the artwork.

Rooms Rooms Rooms

The murals in the rooms are designed with a focus on communal living and features interactions between people in a futuristic utopia where virtual reality, mixed reality, and holograms have become commonplace. Inspired by the innovative atmosphere of the One-North district, the designs show an aspiration of a world where people are able to stay connected with others across borders and around the world seamlessly and immersively through the use of advanced technology as an extension of daily communication.

Rooftop Vibes

In the rooftop mural design consists of a series of Bauhaus style human figures co-living harmoniously and participate in various lifestyle activities. Neon lights were included into the wall's design so that it would be lit at night.

Le Laundromat

Lastly, for the LYF Laundromat area, we created a geometric bauhaus design with a rooster as the central motif, borrowing influence from the area's history as a rooster-filled neighbourhood before the building was constructed.
